x201s keyboard weirdness

#1 Post by Splat! » Wed May 05, 2010 12:55 pm

I moved from a T60 to a x201s recently.

When typing very quickly, I've noticed the behavior of the x201s keyboard is different than the T60 keyboard; I'm getting a lot of transposed-letter typos. For example, if I type 'cd' very quickly, it comes out 'dc'.

Would this be a hardware bug? Just a difference in how the keyboards arbitrate keys that according to the electronics are hit at the 'same' time? (After all, there must be some minimum resolution that it can determine.)
Am I the only one that sees this, and I should just learn to type slower?

Hmm, I'm not getting that on my X201s. I tried doing your example around 20 times with different key combinations and it always came out correct. I also did a few typing tests and did not see a problem of this sort with 100+ wpm. Is this happening in certain programs or is it system wide? It might possibly be a hardware defect.

I moved from an x40 to an x201s about two weeks ago and this problem hasn't lessened in that time. I have to purposely type slower -- I'm hoping it gets better.

I checked out an x201 (not x201s). It has softer keys with more carry and its not as stiff as a T61 keyboard. If I typed fast on my T61, feels like the key hits a brick plate :-). Didnt feel as hard with the x201 :-(. Perhaps you are factoring this in and being too careful and making mistakes you do not realize. Also some of the keys seems to be in differnet places. I mean the non alphabet keys.

This is a known issue that a update to your BIOS will fix.

Much better. Although the fact that it was fixed in the BIOS is somewhat disturbing.

My unit, now with an intel ssd, is always silent and vibrationless. It only gets hot if I leave it on my quilt.
