I'm the guy who just got a used (apparently gently used) R51 a few days ago. I'm wondering about the fan. I really never hear it running so I wonder if it's simply super quiet, or running only when a certain temp is reached. I have put my hand by the vent on the left side and feel hot air but it doesn't seem to be pushed out, it seems to just be there at times.
Tell me about the fan.
Thanks
My R51 fan-- running or not?

Take the keyboard screws out from the bottom, then lift up the keyboard to ca. 45 degrees.
Then boot and keep watching the fan. It ALWAYS runs at boot time for a few seconds.
Since you have (cool-running) Intel graphics, the fan will only rarely come on under normal operations.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Or you can download a copy of PC Doctor for DOS and run the Fan and thermal sensor diagnostics.
