Anyone notice ccard fraud...

#1 Post by AMATX » Sat May 08, 2010 11:03 am

Hmmm, had some fraud charges pop up on my card yesterday...

Digging through charges over the last couple of months, noticed Lenovo and Lenovo Outlet purchases, which were about the only things out of the ordinary on this particular card. I use this account for repetitive bill paying, not much 'new' out there. Avoid the usual trouble spots, such as restaurants, handing the card over to a live person, funky scanner/readers at unusual locations, etc.

Ran a virus check on my laptop, came up clean.

So, I'm wondering if the exposure occurred through Lenovo somehow...could be time to use one of those 'virtual account numbers' that some ccard companies provide.

Anyone else run into fraud stuff after buying directly from Lenovo??

I'll probably never find out where the leak actually occurred, but am curious...

I just saw on Clark Howard last week that unscrupulous types are installing devices in credit card readers to steal card numbers and using surveillance to get your pin.

yes, yes, i know about those. That's why I mentioned not using funky readers. I'm very careful about where/when I use this particular card; that's why I was surprised at the fraud issue here.

Sorry, but I don't understand clearly. Did you use your card with Lenovo, and then suspicious charges showed up elsewhere? Or, was it that charges from Lenovo showed up on your card that you did not make?

It's fairly hard to track down fraud on your own. Have you involved your card issuer?

Yes, some details would be nice if you're going to use "Lenovo" and "fraud" in the same post. This will only instill anxiety in those who might have placed orders recently...

Your credit card company will tell you who the fraud came from...those folks will tell you who used your card right down to the actual location recorded. If they used your card for downloading it is very tough to trace...but if they shipped to a phyical address they will have turned that over to the police. (If it is over a certain amount)
