Shutting R51s lid disconnects lcd

Whenever i shut the lid on my r51 xp disconnects it and makes the sound you get when you unplug a flash drive, but when i open the lid again it reconnects it and makes the sound like i just inserted something in the usb port. I noticed it started doing this when i installed the intel video driver off of lenovos website, but i cant get it to stop. Is something plug and play in the lid switch? the sound is driving me nuts and any help would be greatly appreciated

I got it to stop making the sound by updating the bios to the latest version, but it still seems to want to re-size the resolution every time the lid is reopened, my desktop will go away and reload. I noticed my other R51 does the same thing so im wondering if it was something with the drivers
