T42 touchpad buttons not working and FPR bezel question

ok the lower buttons on the touchpad are no longer working, but the touchpad and the fpr are working fine.

After checking the assembly of the touchpad and fpr underneath the bezel it seems the fpr has a cable which connects into the touchpad.

my question is will a touchpad from non fpr palmrest fit in my current FPR bezel and accept the FPR cable into it?

or do i need to buy a palmrest with FPR touchpad built in?

so umm do all touchpads have an input for the FPR cable?

The two front buttons, touchpad, and FPR are all separate assemblies. The main cable is really attached to the FPR. If the two buttons don't work, try changing that out first.

thanks sjthinkpadder. from what i gather fpr cable goes into touchpad and buttons cable goes into touchpad and from there the main cable goes into the motherboard. so your saying the buttons assembly and cable can be had separately ? are those buttons available for purchase separately online or from ibm?

The main cable is attached to the FPR. One end goes to the touchpad connector. The two front button is then plugged into the touchpad. It is possible the connector is loose. Try releasing the button cable connector and secure again.

I don't think any of these are sold separately. Try looking for a scrap palmrest.

yes i noticed the main cable is the difference between the fpr and non fpr systems.

the fru i have right now is 13r2348 and this is 93p4696

will this work with the fpr if i plug in my main fpr cable into this?
