T410 & 4338 Dock Not powering-on while docked with lid shut
T410 & 4338 Dock Not powering-on while docked with lid shut
We have received our first two new T410 and 4338 docking stations. Both of these units are experiencing the same problem in that they are difficult to turn on while docked with the lid shut.
For example:
•Dock the T410 and shut the lid.
•Press the dock's power button.
•You will see the T410's battery LED and hibernate "moon" LED flash, but then nothing happens, no fan noises or anything.
•If you press the power button again, then the laptop may or may not turn on. Sometimes it takes 5-10 presses before it will turn on.
•It doesn't matter how long you hold the button for...the problem is the same whether a quick click or a longer press.
•The problem remains the same whether the dock is "locked" or "unlocked".
Now, if you open the lid on the laptop and press the dock's power button, then it will turn on instantly...everytime...no problem. Naturally, pressing the T410's native power button also turns it on instantly.
I am seeing the same problem on two identical laptops and docks. Has anyone else seen this...and if so, any ideas on how to resolve the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: T410 & 4338 Dock Not powering-on while docked with lid shut
The only time I have ever seen that behavior on my T410 and dock is if the key is in the vertical position. It needs to be horizontal, also the dock needs to be plugged in using a 90watt or better adapter.

Did you check the power settings and make sure that "lid closed" is set for "does nothing"?

On my dock, the laptop is locked when the key is in the vertical position...horizontal is unlocked. So you are saying that this problem could occur when the T410 is locked in the dock?Harryc wrote:The only time I have ever seen that behavior on my T410 and dock is if the key is in the vertical position. Also, I am using the 90watt adapter that came with the dock.
Yes, I have the Windows power settings set to this. There is no setting in the BIOS related to the lid or docks however.zekeblue wrote:Did you check the power settings and make sure that "lid closed" is set for "does nothing"?

We both speak English, no? Try both positions.RLatND wrote:On my dock, the laptop is locked when the key is in the vertical position...horizontal is unlocked. So you are saying that this problem could occur when the T410 is locked in the dock?
