is it reasonable to add memory to a ancient T400,2GB,p8400

[T400plus]

since memory prices are dirt cheap for the 1 GB,2Gb chips ,I am itching to
add more memory to my T400,since i don want all my original memory to
be mistreated i ambuying a 2gbmodule to replace a 1gb module to have a total
of 3gb.Will I see better performance with software like mathcad, vs2100(c++,VB)?.
I am using xp sp3.
after 1 year I will switch over to64 bit versions as I am not getting a working driver for my
printer(My Engineer told me that,I did not search for that,curse HP).

The T400 is by no means ancient. Should just got to 64-bit now and add at least 2GB of memory and you will see an improvement.

Yes, RAM upgrades are *definitely* a good idea, especially if you're going to be doing development. Even 2GB is a little light if you're doing any serious dev. work...

Yes... the T400 was discontinued in January, and is still a pretty modern machine. I've got 4GB in my T400(with the same processor as yours) running Win7 Pro x64, and have absolutely no issues with it. Depending on what sort of work you'll be doing with it, you can go up to a maximum of 8GB. This can be a bit expensive, and will requires you to use a 64-bit operating system.
