Everything else you said makes complete sense to me, and maybe it sacrifices nothing compared to other 14" widescreens... but it does look kind of large in the pictures, compared to KB size, screen total sz, and overall. I'd think an X60s or X60 tablet SXGA+ would take up less desk space, no?

Anyway, vkw104, don't let me discourage you from underclocker's advice, from his other posts he seems to know much more than me. :)

Heyo all,
Thanks again for all the amazing advice. Now I feel kinda bad about having pulled the trigger on a T410i. I didn't mean to disregard everyone's advice, but my parents told me just to buy it from Lenovo. I do wish I saw the posts about the T400 earlier a few hours earlier. Woulda saved me a ton.

They said they'll get me this laptop and I'd have to buy them a car when I graduate law school and (hopefully) get a job. That is one high, high interest loan.

Thanks again for everyone's help, and I look forward to integrating myself into the Thinkpad community more. Especially since I'll have something to talk about :)

Oh, and as for the stuff about packing it up and all that when I have to go to the bathroom, I'm definitely not leaving it around. Cost of anti-theft warranty is often just common sense/constant vigilance (and good luck), in my opinion.

/edit/ Hm, now I'm kicking myself...that T400 Deal is amazing.

I needed something more powerful than my Dell D420, which is a great ultraportable but my laptops never leave the house. I need one for a different reason than road warrior or school mobility. I had a lower price point than you do so I seattled for a 15" Thinkpad

Had I the money I wanted to buy the Lenovo, sturdy build ultraportable X-61. 12.1" display 1024X768, 7200RPM HDD, Core 2 Duo. I was a road warrior for many years. Even a 14" , 6 pound laptop is a bear to carry around. I would love to have had something like the Dell D420 or even better the Lenovo X-61 ultraportable

My T410i arrived yesterday and it's easily one of the best computers I've ever used. I'm still getting used to the hardware... coming from an apple ibook it is quite different but in a good way.

It beat my expectations in almost every way.. It's fast, even with the core i3. the keyboard is amazing so far. And I actually find myself using the trackpoint more than 75% of the time even though I've never used one before.. and the size/weight of the notebook is perfect and it feels extremely solid. I like it a lot.

Also as a side note.. I got the 1440x900 display and the text seemed real small at first but I'm already used to it after 2 days.

I think you made a good decision..

Ah great to hear! I'm hearing that a lot about the trackpoint - it really does seem like a time saver. Which battery did you get and how long does it last?

How long did it take from order --> shipment?

9 cell. I haven't had much time with it but so far it's been great. I've only had to charge it once since it arrived.. so I can already tell that it will literally last me a full working day depending on what I'm doing.. with the screen brightness turned down I can get a solid 6-9 hours out of it.. Today I was on the internet with the brightness turned way down and the meter said I had about 9.5 hours of battery life remaining.

Ordered on 5/1 (I added a lot of custom crap so it might have taken longer than usual) and was shipped from the factory on 5/13. arrived to my house on 5/19.
