Click sound during startup & shutdown

#1 Post by Param » Fri May 14, 2010 8:50 pm

I recently installed (fresh install, removing windows vista!) Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS on my Thinkpad T61 (6459 CTO), everything works fine. But there is a click sound during start up process and also during shut down. I dont think it really comes from the speakers as i have set that in mute, i feel the sound to come from somewhere below the keyboard near the LCD bezel.

What could be the reason, am i getting this sound from hard disk ? if anyone have come across this please help...i am not able to figure this out

Thanks

The hard drive is towards the front of the machine. The Optical drive and the CPU fan are back there though. Try removing the CDRW drive and see if the noise still occurs. I'd also be tempted to load up a Linux Live CD to see if the noise occurs on startup and shutdown of Linux.

Have you checked Device Manager to make sure you have all drivers? Any exclamation marks? Should not be clicking.
