Empty battery shell for T40

#1 Post by newerjazz » Wed Mar 02, 2005 6:46 pm

Hi I gnerally use my T40 at home, in my office, or in a classroom with the power cord plugged in so I really don't need the battery.

Is there a dummy battery unit I can slide into the battery slot so I can shave off 1lb. I walk 1~2 hours with my T40 everyday across campus and to and from home so this will really help my shoulders.

Thanks a lot!

I too am interested in such a product. I know ultrabay covers exist. I'm more concerned about keeping dust and dirt out than weight though. An old T4x 6-cell battery would do the trick if anyone is willing to part with one, and maybe they could be hollowed out?

I've asked about this before. Supposedly IBM Japan sells them, but I haven't figured out how to buy one. Why they're not available in the US is beyond me.

Know what would be cool? A power brick in the shape of the 6-cell battery. Maybe even with a retractable cord.

That of course wouldn't solve the OP's problem of travel weight between multiple existing adapters, but I would certainly find it useful.

I think that the battery offers some protection against lost of power. Do you think it is safe to use the a laptop without a battery?

Just take the battery out and leave it home!

There's no forced air circulating through your Thinkpad that would cause anything to enter the machine through the battery port.

Depends on how much time and effort you have invested in that e-mail/cost estimate/white paper/thesis/etc that you've just spent 2 hours writing or revising (without saving) when the power blips out. I personally think the battery makes a dandy UPS.

I too want a dummy battery, and they are hard to come by.... They only sell those in Japan for about 40 bucks I believe... if there is enough interest, I may be able to help those who wants one when I come back to US during end of april.

so if you want one, please post it here. Figure about 50 bucks for one with shipping and everything....

i have ups both at home and at work so i am not really worried about loss of data. (plus i have a macro that saves my working documents automatically to a gmail account every 10 minutes.)

I just want a hollow shell that weighs next to nothing to insert into that space. maybe we should look on ebay...

You'd hardly notice the difference, 1lb is nothing!

Don't bother....
