My T30

#1 Post by a7ecorsair » Sun May 16, 2010 11:21 am

Hi all,
I have a T30 that I bought used through the EPP. It developed the noisy fan syndrome , see other posting, and my wife couldn't stand it so I ordered a T43 for her. This T30 has been idle for awhile, but I'm getting back to usable condition. I found this forum :D
This T30 has a 2.2ghz processor, that's the way it came, and right now it has a 512 and 256 stick in it. I added the 512 but now I'm thinking of a tad more memory. From some of the posting on this forum it appears that 1 gig sticks will work. Is this correct? I could buy a 1 gig stick and then have either 1.25 gig or 1.5 gig.
The next thing I'd like to do is add back the internal wifi card. I pulled the 802b card out and I'm currently using a USB wifi adapter that came with my router. It's just somewhat of a PITA having to plug it in and have it on the desktop. I saw some entries in another post about this. What are my choices?

The T30 can take 2x 1GB RAM, either PC2100 or PC2700 Sodimms.
Any MiniPCI wifi card in 802.11ABG or 802.11BG will work.
A good one would be an Intel 2200BG in the version specifically made for IBM and which has an IBM P/N or FRU (e.g. on eBay).
Most others will work also, but might require a (very simple) so-called NO-1802 BIOS hack.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Sometimes it can happen, that one of the RAM slots is out of order. In that case you only can work with 1 GB RAM max.

Hi again,
I ordered an Intel 2200BG wireless card but I get the 1802 message. I've been looking for the No 1802 BIOS patch but so far I haven't found it. Since this is a forum, I would suspect the patch is stored somewhere in the clouds so I need a link to find it. I'll keep searching the T30 forum but I'd appreciate it if someone had the link.

Hummmm,
I can't find anything in the above link that works. There is a link on the first page but it only opens a page that says:
Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found

Showing related results for: http://www.student.ru.nl/p.brederveld/m ... m_wifi.zip

I found two more links on page 5 but they don't work either so right now I'm at a loss as to were to look for this 1802 fix.

I found the file on rapid share. It is an .iso file and some of the old link are referencing a .com file.

First I want to be sure those who have provide feedback realize that their efforts are appreciated. :D
Now...
The no-1802 patch installed just fine and I am typing this reply using the T30 :D , however, I am still using my USB wireless connection. Windows wants a driver :help:
The wifi card I found on ebay is an Intel WM3B2200BG but the new hardware wizard hasn't been able to come up with a driver.

I went thru this scenario with my T30 when the original card quit. I bought a card that was virtually identical to the IBM card, but it was branded for DELL, IIRC.

I ended up registering at the Intel website and was then able to get the driver to get the card working. I also applied the 1802 hack. Life has been good ever since!

I'm good to go
I found the driver on the Intel support pages. Downloaded it, ran the .exe and didn't even have to reboot. I disable my USB network device, added the encryption key for my router, and here I am, adding this wrap-up reply. Thanks again everyone
