Bluetooth radio inaccessible

#1 Post by QNPoohBear » Mon May 17, 2010 4:29 pm

I'm running Vista Business SP2 and suddenly my internal bluetooth radio disappeared. When I press Fn+ F5 it shows my wireless connection but not bluetooth. Bluetooth is showing in my control panel but any attempt to connect a device or upgrade drivers tells me to turn on the radio. It worked intermittently for awhile, I think even after upgrading to SP2.Any ideas what happened and how it can be fixed?

Take a look into the device manager, whether you'll find there the bluetooth device. If it is mentioned there, look, whether it is deactivated there.

Annother hint:
Turn off and on the hardware-switsch at the front side of your ThinkPad and try Fn-f5 again.

BT is "hard-connected" to Fn-Fn. That means, that no software-driver will be needed to turn it on and off with Fn-F5. You can try to turn on BT before Vista boots or boot an OS from CD-ROM, turn BT on and reboot.
If BT turns off at boot, go into the BIOS by pressing F1 while the boot-splash appears and then press "F9-load defaults". After that press F10 and select "yes" <Enter>.

I can see Bluetooth listed in the control panel but I do not see it listed in the device manager.
It does not show up in the task bar and it will not turn on when I toggle the wireless radio switch on and off and reboot.
If BT turns off at boot, go into the BIOS by pressing F1 while the boot-splash appears and then press "F9-load defaults". After that press F10 and select "yes" <Enter>.
Setting the defaults does not make bluetooth radio accessible.

I have contacted Microsoft to see if this is an issue with Windows Vista SP2.

I found the cause of the problem: System information says the Bluetooth modem has been disabled but I still need to know how to enable it.

Fn+F5 does NOT show bluetooth radio as an option. there does not seem to be any way to turn on bluetooth. My computer is up-to-date on updates from lenovo and from windows. I don't know why it's not working.

Maybe your BT just went the way of the dodo...
