X200 Tablet SD Card Slot Speed. Fast or Slow?

#1 Post by epu » Mon May 17, 2010 11:12 pm

My X200 Tablet is smoking with an Express Card SSD in its Expresscard slot. I would like to have a "third drive" w/o carrying around my bulky ultrabase. Is the SD Card Slot fast? I've seen some 666x cards (theoretically reaching speeds of 133 MB/s). Is the SD slot hooked to the USB bus (causing it to read slow no matter the card speed), or is it PCI like the Express Card slot?

Thanks for any info.

Wow I had no idea the expresscard slot could be used with an SSD. Is it really advantageous tho? Would SATA command queueing be missed?

Which SSD are you using?

As for the SD slot I believe it is connected to the USB bus. Therefore any SD card is limited to the bandwidth of USB 2.0

Using the MTRON Mobi 3000 16GB Express Card SSD. I use it as a second hard drive so I can do audio work (Digidesign/Avid Pro-Tools) on the go without hauling around my ultrabase. It works like a charm. Super fast. I can run audio and samples from it at the same time. Things that take minutes to load from the HDD takes seconds with the SSD. I would like to upgrade to a 64GB SSD in the expresscard slot, but only if its SLC. Sadly, the MTRON Expresscard is discontinued and VERY hard to find. There's plenty of information online about it though.
