Secure storage (W510)

#1 Post by kohai » Thu May 20, 2010 2:13 pm

I'm in the middle of upgrading from my T60 to a W510. On my T60, I had a program called "ThinkVantage Client Security Solution", I think. This program allowed me to create a file system based encrypted volume that mounted as a drive letter. Access to this volume was controlled by login/authentication which I used the finger scanner to login into windows. This was a nice tool because I had an encrypted place to put files and it didn't require any mounting, passwords, etc, to use it. It was just there when I logged in.

This does not seem to exist on the W510 software. I tried to download the software (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 73696.html) but that didn't seem to install what I need.

Does anybody know how to get this working on the w510? I hate to mess with Truecrypt and passwords, extra processes, it not being seamless, etc.

Hi kohai....
wow a newbie   .....

Although i never been a fan of TvT apps but i did see some advantages in the 'secure data' feature of the CSS.....its was never 'secure enough' for me.

I have the newer W510, and although we format the 'factoryHD' when we get out laptops - we never use CSS so cannot really tell you if its NOT THERE (often most TVT's apps are not 'installed/configured' as it requires USER's OWN input - as to how and what features they want to have....blah blah
Ok as far the newest CSS for Windows 7 x32 or x64 (link you spplied) does/will support by W5x series (please download and read the READ ME file ; especially the Supported Systems) There might be a delay in updating the read me files for these newer W50x and L41x and L51x series of machines etc.......

...am sure it would work on Windows 7 and newer W501 machines. To double check you might want to ask Lenovo Tech Support this b 4 your order

Cheers
