Does T410 have a fan noise problem?

#1 Post by hgz33grand » Fri May 21, 2010 8:09 pm

I want to purchase a thinkpad T410 in a few days, but I found some complaints about the fan noise of T410 and the fan running speed is about 3500 -4000. I really can't stand very big fan noise. Can any of you tell me the fan noise on your T410?

Its not a fan noise problem and not limited to the T410. Instead some squealing chirping issues related to power states on Intel powered i series CPUs. Not limited to Lenovo as others have it. Not everyone has the problem. Seems to be isolated. This is from what I read. I'm not the expert on this topic.

Thanks for the info. But I do find the heat sink is much smaller than the one on T400, and core i series is definitely more heated than core 2 series chips. So just wondering whether that is the problem that causes the fan always running.

some people use fan control software. my philosophy is just use it the way it was designed. if Lenovo felt the fan should not come on, they would have designed it that way. they know more about thermal management than any of us.

disable uneeded services in Windows. Also, disable uneeded startup programs using msconfig. and turn down power setttings. that should result in the fan not triggering itself to run less often and/or at lower speed.

the noise shouldnt bother you. just have to get accustomed to it.

just received my t410 a few days ago and it's very nice. I have integrated graphics and the fan runs almost constantly but it's so quiet that it doesn't bother me at all.. I've also noticed that the notebook runs very cool so that's always a plus.

How about the performance of the integrated graphic card? Can it play 1080p movies?I think i'd better go with the discrete graphic card.

I don't have any 1080p videos of my own. So I just streamed The Dark Night trailer in 1080p on youtube as a test. It appeared to play smooth on full screen, my eyes could not detect any stuttering or lag but I have nothing to compare it to and it was only 2 minutes long. It was definitely watchable. The fan did get a bit louder and hasn't slowed down yet.. kinda weird. Just so you know, I have the T410i with i3-330m and 1440x900 display
