TP Function to turn off backlight like on Samsung Q30??

#1 Post by beeblebrox » Thu Mar 03, 2005 6:19 am

I know it sounds strange, but I have been looking for a button or function to turn off the backlight. I am not talking about turning off the screen (Fn+F3), but only the backlight.

I noticed that in bright sunlight any LCD backlight is useless and when the LCD cable of my T20 broke I used to work in Word for hours without backlight. It was quite good with strong ambient light, like on my Sharp Zaurus/Palmtop.

Recently I had the Samsung Q30 for review and they have especially that function implemented. You can read eBooks or work in Word for hours without draining the battery.

Since turning off the backlight but keeping the LCD functional is only a matter of software, I wonder if anyone has figured out how to do this.
Any suggestions?

I further wonder what happened to the reflective color LCDs that were announced quite a while ago. Up to now I have only seen transflective, conventionel screens.
With strong sunlight there is no need for backlight.
