Do any of you think the T510 is huge?

#1 Post by LodenCorp » Wed May 26, 2010 5:18 pm

Do any of you think the T510 with a 9 cell looks huge? (I've never seen one before until today, some guy I believe had a T510 sitting right next to me, thank you GOD!). So what's your thought? Is it noticeable difference than the T410 with a 9 cell? I don't want the T410 because I heard it has a bad screen compared to the T510's HD+

Looking at your other posts, it seems to me you like the T510 a lot more than the T410 and may have even made up your mind to get the former. If you like it so much, just go for it. It doesn't matter whether other people find it too big or not.

I personally find it WAY too big and heavy to lug around more than twice a year, but that's just me. Weight/size tolerance is totally subjective. Also, I think any battery that sticks out looks hideous, but again that's just me.

My T510 shipped with the 9 cell, it was the only battery offered when they were first released. Not only does it protrude out the back but it's particularly hideous looking as it's longer on one side than the other which affects the balance of the machine. I immediately sourced a 6 cell which fits flush with the back of the computer, it looks so much better and saves weight. Besides I don't run on battery power much anyway.

I carry mine with me everyday and have no problem at all. I've carried a 15" ThinkPad for years. The screen real estate is easily worth it to me.
Besides I also have a T410 and it's less than 1/2 lb. lighter, I know I weighed the two on a very accurate industrial scale.

If your drawn to the T510 I say buy one, they are one of the best new T series in a few years.

Cheers... :)

There's only two factors that will make me get the T510. Is the battery life good with a 6 cell. And is the screen HD+ better than the WXGA+?

I don't find mine huge or heavy in the slightest. I was shocked when I took it out of the box just how compact and light it actually is. A few months later now, I'm still regularly shocked every time I pick it up. Now, bear in mind that I downsized from a very large, very heavy, 17" Toshiba Qosmio G30, so in comparisson, just about anything would seem small and light. But honestly, it's only an inch or two wider than the T410, and a little heavier, and the same in all other dimensions. I don't see the big deal?

Braddah it depends on how you commute. If you are going from garage to garage and up an elevator (after picking up your coffee and two cinammon rolls despite eating breakfast already at home) then its not heavy. if you are a student and walking from class to class with eight textbooks in your backpack, then it becomes an over the should bolder that can hurt you by hauling it around all day.

Good point, GrandMasterKhan! I definitely fall into the former category with the mocha late and the cinnamon buns and just how did you know I already had breakfast first??? Haha.

I got a T510 with integrated graphics and 6-cell battery. I get 3-4 hours or more of battery computing, which is more than I need. It's not too big. I had an older ThinkPad (T60?) with higher-end graphics, and I don't find this screen is any slower . . . the better processor must help. But then, I don't do 3D and I don't play games.

The machine is larger than the 410, but at 61 yr old, I find the larger screen easier to read, especially during a week-long meeting.

I got the 7200 RPM disk, too. It makes a difference.

It's a little thicker than I would like. However, if I really need to carry something around, I'll just take my iPad or T43.

I prefer x301 or t410s over T510. 15" wide screen notebooks is feels awfully large behind a coach seat in airplanes. They are luggable so I only take it when necessary.
