Thinkpad 390E not recognize cd-rom at boot

#1 Post by cocovita » Sun May 30, 2010 10:37 pm

Hi everyone!
Im new in the forum, and I´m the happy owner of this little one.

Well, as I say in the subject, the problem is that, when it boots dont recognizes the cd rom and dont let me boot from a cd to install windows
Under windows it is recognized and works ok
And in the bios the cd rom unit dont have the "+" mark
The cd rom boots perfectly in the tp600 of a friend, so the cd rom works ok
I compared the last bios version in the ibm site and is the same of mine: R01_09c
So, why this is happening? :??:
Thanks in advance

welcome to the forum

trying my 390x, this I also find: do you have the
CD-ROM above the HD in BIOS startup?

if so, suggest "smart boot manager," bootable floppy
utility that renders bootable CD-ROMs in machines
that normally won't boot from such
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)

Hi, thanks for the advice. I never heard about smart boot, it´s very useful
I checked the order in bios and is this:
cd
fdd
boot from lan
hd

but when it boots, only the fdd reads before the hd
so I'm using a win98 floppy to install win98 from cd and finally instaled win98!!
but bad news: the fan during post it´s running ok, but it stops when windows boot and starts to overheating!
I removed the keyboard an put an athlon heatsink over the cpu plate, it works but the fan dont start to spin :(
Why is this happening? can this be solutioned?
