W500 and docking issues

#1 Post by johnp126 » Tue Jun 01, 2010 6:26 pm

I have someone who i just upgraded to Vista SP2. He had and continues to have "hang" issues when docking. Doesn't even boot sometimes. I remember in xp there were hardware profiles, does Vista still have this and can they be deleted and then recreated? any ideas if this does not exist.. please advise

Is this person using an advanced mini-dock? If I recall there were BIOS updates to earlier Thinkpad models using that dock. The update added a way to disable some devices (ports ) on the dock to reduce or eliminate issues. The exact setting is to "enable/disable legacy COM/LPT devices" or "Legacy Devices on Mini-Dock" - Enabled/Disabled" . See if that setting is in the W500 BIOS and change it. The issue IIRC was the problem of computer freeze/bluescreen during sudden power loss while docked. That is not your exact problem, but it's worth a shot. Also, make sure they are using a 90W AC adapter.
Here's another fix for a power issue while docking - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 67382.html
