Stolen ThinkPad T60

#1 Post by kim-chee-san » Wed Jun 02, 2010 8:30 pm

Hi all -

My sister had her T60 stolen from her car at a gas station in Houston (the Sugarland area to be more specific) this afternoon. She's 95% sure that the machine type/model is 1871-43u. She's 100% about the serial number, which she had written down. I can post that if it's ok to do so.

I know the probability of recovery is probaly zilch, but would appreciate it if you could be on the lookout for anyone trying to sell a T60 from the Houston/Sugarland area. The seller probably won't have the adapter since my sister didn't have it with her in the car. Much thanks!

Moved to 'off topic'. Good luck in your search. Hopefully your sister has contacted the local authorities. I would also recommend notifying Lenovo in case someone tries to register it or to purchase a warranty.

Sorry to hear about that.

FYI, type 1871 is definitely a T43, I've owned a couple...something like 1951 is a T60. (It may be possible figure out the model number with just the serial number.)

File a police report so you can make a claim on your house insurance. Also check craigslist, kijiji, and local ads.

Happened to me too. Good luck

If I am not mistaken, there is a prison in or near Sugarland, Tx.

I usually check Craigslist for any good deals, so I can keep an eye out. Double check the model# and if I get a match I will let you know.

You are correct. I double checked on the Lenovo website with the serial # and the machine type/model is 1951-44u.

My sister has filed a police report and notified Lenovo. Last I checked with her, it appears that the thieves were able to get off a charge on her CC before the block became active. I guess stealing from people really works up an appetite--they spent $24 at a Whataburger ($24 there can get you quite the feast). I told her to contact her CC company to see if they could work with Whataburger to obtain any available surveillance video.

I've been checking CL and eBay fairly regularly and haven't seen anything yet (@.nox--thanks for the Kijiji suggestion...didn't even think about that one before).

@GomJabbar - I'm sure there is a prison somewhere out in that area, but apparently, according to the officer my sister spoke with, this type of grab-and-dash at gas stations while people are filling their vehicles has been happening more frequently all over town.

Thanks to all for keeping an eye out. I'll post updates as I get them from sis.
