19-20" LCD recommendation
Hey guys,
I currently have a 19" AOC flat CRT. I'm considering replacing it with a 19" LCD. I watch the occasional TV show on it, but having watched them on my thinkpad and other LCD's I don't see ghosting as such a problem anymore. I don't play games either.
I'm doing this purely for deskspace.
So I'm in the market for a good 19/20" LCD. My current resolution is 1280x1024. The 1600x1200 resolution seems a bit small, but a 19 or 20 inch LCD would have more viewable space so that should be fine too (especially considering my 14.1" T42 is SXGA+). Speakers on the LCD are a no no and analog or digital outputs doesn't really matter (I have both on my vid card. I'd probably go with a pure digital just for future purposes, but no matter)
Does anyone have recommendations?
I'm not neccesarily looking for the cheapest LCD out there, I'm willing to spend the money on a good monitor. My primary concern is dead pixels and the return policy. I'd prefer a better return policy (something like a 30 days no questions asked that IBM has) even if it costs a bit more.
Thanks in advance,
Adam

DELL sells 21" widescreen that can be rotated vertically. It's great for reading documents and it is wide screen so perfect to watch TV or movies.
If you wait for the right time DELL usually have e-coupons and that monitor can be purchased for around $700. I think the resolution you get is 1920 x 1200. Check out their website

I've seen some of the Dell LCD's and they've seemed good. My concern is the support. If the monitor comes with a 1 year warranty and something goes wrong I'm worried about sitting on hold forever with no end in sightdaeojkim wrote:DELL sells 21" widescreen that can be rotated vertically. Thanks though - I read a review on them and they do seem interesting.

First off, it's the 12x10 resolution that's small, not 16x12. 16x12 is nearly 50% larger. Unless you have really poor vision, there's no reason not to go with a higher resolution.
Also, I would recommend Dell's 20 inch widescreen, the 2005FP, which was recently on sale for 487. If you want a regular resolution, then 2001FP is the 4:3 version, at 16x12. For cheap LCDs, Dell really has the market now.

which they say are NEC..
i have three 2000FP and three 2001FP..
all came perfect, no stuck on pixels..
have not seen the 2005FP but i think the 1050x1640(?) is not for me..
i like the 1200x1600..
and when they come out, 1200x2400 or whatever..
i can't believe $487 for the 2005FP..! thats a good price..

Very interesting. I didn't know this.morrow wrote: agreed re the dell displays..

I was going to suggest NEC, as I have a couple-years-old 18.3" NEC LCD monitor which is very good. When I saw it in the store, it was so much better than the other (name brand) LCDs, that I bought one on the spot. Pretty impressive for a guy who frets and obsesses over most purchases.
If you can get that quality for the low prices Dell is charging, looks like a winner to me.
