Will this hard drive work on t43p

#1 Post by Think43p » Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:40 am

Any reason to believe that this will not work as a replacement drive on my t43p?

This is a SATA drive. You need a PATA drive, such as the WD3200BEVE. Note that the WD drive will trigger 2010 error on boot but it should work fine. Some drives such as most Fujitsu and some Hitachi will not trigger this error but they are smaller sizes.

As a matter of personal choice, I prefer Seagate since I have had a good experience with it. Are there any Seagates above 100Gb that I can use?

Look at the interface in their laptop hard drive product line-up and I think you can answer your own question.

Hi,

If you want to buy at that location then you want this drive:

http://www.buy.com/prod/western-digital ... 73284.html

Or you can get one from Newegg.com:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136345

I just put a 120gb in my T43 and I get the 2010 error. Just hit escape button and continue. People here are saying that there is a way in Bios to let the drive continue all by itself without having to hit the excape key... But I have not found where that location is yet.

Think...,
That Seagate drive is on the Lenovo list of drives for which they have updated firmware. If you can flash the drive, there won't be a 2010 error or beep. Here is the page with the bootable ISO image of the utility. I believe the sticky thread on the main T4x page titled "Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads" will give you instructions on how to do it. Good Luck! (I might even buy one of those drives myself  )

edit: The thread I should have mentioned is Complete guide for flashing a retail HD to IBM official FW in the HOW TOs & FAQs section of FORUM RULES, HOW-TOs and FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS on the main forum page. Sorry about the red herring. The other thread might provide information, too.

That Momentus 7200.1 should be about the same performance as a Hitachi 7K100 (HTS7210xx). You can see the performance comparing to the WD 320GB in this thread, Apr 15 post:

5400rpm drive runs quieter and cooler too. The 2010 error is no big deal. Just set the BIOS to "Continue on error". I have many WDs running in T43/T43p.

Thanks guys,

I think Im gonna go in with the Seagate 100Gb as compared to the Fujitsu 120Gb although I'm really not that concerned about the extra 20Gb or the 2010 error.

I remember using the Seagate for an earlier computer and am really satisfied with Seagates related to performance and durability. Not that the Fujitsu's are any less better, its just a personal choice.

Thanks for all the help in deciding.

Another good drive to use is the Samsung HM160HC. This is a single platter 160GB drive so performance is on par with the two platter 320GB WD3200BEVE. Both these have higher performance than the Seagate Momentus 7200.1 and quieter too.

I am using a Momentus 7200.4 250GB single platter SATA drive and it is also very fast.
