Display colors: T40 vs T42 -- white vs. dirty white
Display colors: T40 vs T42 -- white vs. dirty white
I have 2 ThinkPads T40 and one T42. But when I take a look at other people's notebooks I can see the same. None of then conforms to the sRGB. The display of T40 is slightly better: white is almost white -- a little bit red or violet but it is white and bright. Most color are clear. The display of T42 is different: white is like a dirty white -- similar to the color of pages of old books. The green and blue seem to be stronger than red. I strongly prefer T40s. I wonder what's the reason of that difference and what parts should be replaced -- and LCD? an inverter? or maybe it's a power management / power consumption issue?

The CCF in your T42 is probably getting old. They are rated by hour service life but some are shorter than others.

I don't thinks so. My T40s are old. My T42 was brought a brand new one. The colors were always like an old book pages. I saw the same effect in new T60 or T61 (I don't remember) and in some other T42s.sjthinkpader wrote:The CCF in your T42 is probably getting old. A good description of this T42 is "butter-white"
Re: Display colors: T40 vs T42 -- white vs. dirty white
My experience is, that "white" on 14" XGA is much more better than "white" on 14" SXGA+ independently on LCD's age. I think it is caused by matrix itself - more pixels = less space for light radiation. Just my opinion.
