Workstation service hanging for 3 minutes on startup

#1 Post by gte204i » Fri Mar 04, 2005 1:54 am

So my T42 was getting a little slow, and I decided to reformat today to "fix" it. Restored to factory contents, updated to SP2, blah, blah - and now my computer hangs for about 3 or 4 minutes on startup. Well, I finally tracked it down to the "Workstation" service. It takes Windows that amount of time to load this service. If I set it to "disabled" then it boots fine. Anybody got any ideas? I don't think I can go with leaving this one just disabled all the time.

Strange that you should be hanging on this service, but Yes, it is one that is essential for Network connectivity and should be set to Automatic.

Please add location and other pertinent information to your profile. not required, but appreciated.

It turns out that Wireless Zero Config. has to be set to Automatic or else Workstation hangs - at least on my computer. Anyways, I seem to recall people having problems with WZC, but I thought that was no longer an issue with the latest Access Connections software.

Thanks for the update! :-) Yes, WZC does need to be set to Automatic post SP2, or you will have slow startup speeds.

Hi, I'm a newly registered user and I came across this as I was trying to solve this exact problem.

My new R51 would just hang at startup and I was about to pull out my hair trying to figure it out! Thanks for preventing my premature baldness :D

I too am a recent joinee of this list, and this problem is 100% what was ailing my X31.

Thank you so very much!!
