Creating restore CD's on a T42
Creating restore CD's on a T42
I've bever tried this before but is it easy to do? I've heard it requires 7 CD's, but where is the option to create them? Is it within Access IBM somewhere?

Yes, it's easy to do. Just boot up and press the blue IBM button. From here you enter the Access and create your recovery media. Make sure you have 7 CD-Rs ready.Steve007 wrote:I've bever tried this before but is it easy to do? I've heard it requires 7 CD's, but where is the option to create them? 1 - Rescue and Recovery Rapid Restore
6 - IBM Recovery cd's 1 through 6
Sorry I don't have more details but it's very easy.

easier way to get recovery cd's..
i read that you can call 1800-IBM-SERVE for the recovery CDs if you do so within the first 30 days of having your ThinkPad..

You need one CD-R for the rescue and recovery boot disc. For the rest of the operation, you can either use 7 CD-Rs or one DVD-R.
I was able to get my free rescue and recovery CDs from IBM when I called within 30 days, but I hear that policy has changed and they will only send them out now if you say your drive crashed.
It doesn't really matter though, since IBM actually sends you burned, rather than pressed discs. You might as well burn your own.

i think that ibm will tell you to use the utility that is in the ibm accessories menu.. (i think, without looking)..jmagbita wrote:i read that you can call 1800-IBM-SERVE for the recovery CDs if you do so within the first 30 days of having your ThinkPad..
use branded CD-R's as the utility is very critical of less than good quality CD's..

I can't find the option to create the CD's from within the Rapid Restore interfacerobscomputer wrote: it's very easy
Help!
It isn't in the Rapid Restore interface at all.
If it is a fresh preload then the option should appear as follows:
Start -> All programs -> Access IBM -> Create recovery CDs.
If your machine is a rollout, then it may not be using the original T42 preload - and therefore not have all of the features of the preload.
