Bluetooth driver problems

I have X61s with Vista Business.
I tried to upgrade the driver using '7zbv15ww.exe'. I still have one 'unrecognized device' in the device manager. When selecting 'Update driver software...' from the right click menu, the following error pops-up:

Windows found software for your device but encountered an error while attempting ton install it.
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. Contact your hardware vendor.

I cannot connect any bluetooth device now. It doesn't even ask for a pairing code.

Any suggestions?

The (stable) bluetooth software for Vista in the X61 is 7vbv07ww.exe.
7zbv15ww.exe has problems with the X60/61 series. Personally I let Windows (XP)
handle bluetooth on my X60s but with Windows 7 I used Lenovos latest software.

I suppose that you mean 7vbv05ww.exe (5 instead of 7).
I uninstalled the previous driver of 'Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced data rate', restarted and installed the 7vbv05ww.exe.
It installed to a folder named 'C:\DRIVERS\TPWUSB'.
I still experience exactly the same issues, with the same error messages. Although it manages to find my bluetooth devices, it does not ask for a pairing code. I cannot use neither my bluetooth mouse nor the bluetooth headset.

Do you have more ideas?

I can't answer for Vista since I've never used it but in XP (SP3) and Windows 7 bluetooth is pretty painless.

Remember unpacking IBM/Lenovo drivers and having them reside in C:\drivers etc does not install
them into the system. You have to go into the files and click on install or setup.

Let's get back to basics.....
1. Do you have the latest BIOS and Vista updates?
2. Is the bluetooth on? (Fn+F5 lights icon under screen)
3. Does bluetooth show up in Device Manager?
4. Is there a bluetooth icon in the taskbar?
5. If so is it red or blue? (It should be blue).
If the answers to all the above is yes, then uninstall bluetooth from the Device Manager.
Uninstall all bluetooth software and reboot.
Does Vista find 'New Devices Bluetooth'? If so don't install any IBM/Lenovo drivers unless
Vista doesn't come with any. XP does, Windows 7 doesn't.
Unless I've forgotten something I can only put it down to Vista being a not very good
piece of software.

The basics are fine. (1-5 are all correct).
The bluetooth icon is blue. I could even find the bluetooth devices, but I kept getting an error while trying to attach them. The problem is that it didn;t even ask for a pairing code.

I uninstalled the driver (again). In the device manager I checked the 'show hidden devices' and removed all bluetooth devices.

I also removed the driver installation folder (under c:\drivers).

Before I restart and run the setup again, can you advise which driver to use?
There is the 'Bluetooth Enhanced Data Rate software' and the 'Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II'. The second driver is 14 months newer, but if I understood you right it is not stable.

Also, should I turn bluetooth on *before* running the driver's setup?

Whether bluetooth is on or off during installation shouldn't matter.
Once the software is installed (I'd use the older version) and the icon
shows up in the taskbar, right click on it and choose add new device.
I use a (Targus) bluetooth mouse on my X60s which doesn't require a
passkey or anything else to work.
I have read of installation issues with headphones so maybe your mouse
and headphones just aren't compatible with Lenovos software.

So far, I spent many hours trying to solve this issue.
Installing, un-installing, booting again and again...
I feel it's going nowhere.

Man, I hate when I have to give up!
I understand your frustration though....Geez the mouse/headphones are right there,
the computer sees them but just won't make that final connection . Very frustrating!

Let's talk about the mouse, because I have no experience with headphones.

The mouse is in pairing mode? The pairing button was pushed in long enough for the
LED to light up underneath?
The software is at the correct screen and pairs with the mouse?
The mouse is listed on the screen as a paired item?
Clicking 'next' asks if you want to use a passkey or not?
That's where it stops? Assuming yes I break it down to a hardware or software iissue (what else is there!).
Hardware would be the mouse itself, or some part of the bluetooth circuitry.
The mouse fix is to try it out on another computer. The bluetooth fix is either a new module
or a new LCD cable.
For software there is VISTA! Generally a pretty bad OS with many issues. XP or 7 are much better.
To test another OS try a Linux Distro. Kubuntu Lucid Lynx can be loaded from a CD without installing on your
harddrive. Then you can test your bluetooth under a new (free) OS.
By the way did bluetooth ever work on your laptop?

Thank you for the sympathy and the concern. I'd love to get my BT working again, but it's really gone out of proportion.
I spent many hours trying to solve it, even before I posted the question. Then with your assistance I tried other things, which of course required more time.
Yes, my BT mouse worked fine for many months, until I tried to add the headphones and messed with the driver. Unfortunately, I cannot restore my system to a point when it did work.

I prefer to spend my time doing other things. I'll probably address it again in the future, or maybe even upgrade to WIN7.
