R52 hard drive

#1 Post by asmith219 » Sun Jun 06, 2010 4:50 pm

I just bought a IBM think pad r52, I bought it to restore, build and hopefully resale. It came with no hard drive. so I installed a 160 GB Hard Drive, everything seems fine windows XP installed updated all the drivers. the only problem I am experiencing is an error message at start up, the message says the the hard drive may not be compatible or some other crap. I am asked to either press Esc to continue (which I do, and windows then starts up and seems to run fine) or to press f1 to enter set up. is there anyway to get rid of this error message and the annoying beep?

There's no way to get rid of the 2010 error. Live with it or get an IBM FRU# drive. The below thread pertains to T43's, and R52's are functionally equivalent to those.

My understanding is that the latest BIOS will have an entry in the setup menu which essentially ignores the 2010 error; you get the error and it continues to boot - no need to press the ESC key. And as far as I know (don't have a working T43) you can continue to use the system without any problems.
