Vodafone wireless dongle FAILED to connect to the Internet

#1 Post by Marie-Anne » Wed Jun 09, 2010 10:49 am

I just returned from holidays in Egypt (Sharm al Shaik).

For businessreasons I needed an internet connection. The management of the resort provided me, as a service, a Vodafone USB wireless 3G dongle.

I was told: just put the dongle in one of the USB ports, and all required software will be installed. Enter "install" and press "OK" (or equivalents) during the installation procedure, and you're connected to the Internet (via Vodafone Egypte).

After a while it was reported that the network was found, I pressed okay "to connect" and then it reports an error alike "Wlan profile ........".
Unfortunetely I can't recall the exact error message.

Several times I removed the software, started the install procedure over and over again, to no avail.

Obviously, I was frustrated and businesswise handicapped. Whom of the forum members could tell me what could have created this problem? And how it possibly could have been solved?

FYI:
My T60 is running XP (fully updated)and in the bios I switched off the Internal wireless Intel card.

Is there someone who has experienced similar problems and resolved the problem?

It sounds to me like you have Lenovo's Access Connections installed and the error was simply telling you to create a profile in Access Connections for the WWAN connection.

Lenovo's Access Connections can't be the reason for the problem as I've never installed it.

Did you try to call Vodafone Egypt? Maybe they can help you. You said you received the same error many times, try do an effort and write down here the entire error message, maybe someone know something about it.

It could have been your choice of USB slot. I think on some TPs one actually has more power than the other two. Also some USB modems have native software embedded and that can interfere with the client software if you also installed it. Plus in IE you need to disable your other connection methods. Without seeing your machine and being there at the time you claim it was hardware and/or software instead of user infamilarity on how to configure, no one can give you a definitive answer but we have told you most of the possible issues.
