SL300 USB connecting sound when moving monitor
Hey,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I had a google and it seems that other people have this problem but no answers.
I have an SL300 2738-53G which had Windows Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7 pro.
I only recently noticed the sound, but when I move my monitor, or even just moving the laptop at all, I get the standard USB connecting/disconnecting sound as if I am inserting a device into a USB port and then immediately removing it again.
I've heard someone on another forum say that some internal devices are connected to the motherboard USB ports and they may be loose inside.
Does anyone have any suggestions or even a solution?
Cheers,
Ritchie

As perhaps a practical solution, you could disable the device connected/device disconnected sound on the sound properties page in control panel.

I could, but that would also disable the sounds when I'm actually connecting/disconnecting a USB device.FredGarvin wrote:As perhaps a practical solution, you could disable the device connected/device disconnected sound on the sound properties page in control panel.
I'll use that as a last resort solution but I was hoping some other Thinkpad users experience the same problem and may have a fix.

There must be some other Thinkpad users with the same problem. I'm led to believe it's a Windows 7 thing but I could be wrong?

You say that like it's bad. I hate all those Windows sounds and disable them. I don't know that the SL was ever super popular around these parts. You could try a Linux disc or re-install Vista to see if it still does it. If it does, it's likely a hardware issue.ritchie888 wrote:I could, but that would also disable the sounds when I'm actually connecting/disconnecting a USB device.
