Can't use Advanced Mini Dock without a key???

I own T61 with 4x3 screen. Just got Adv. Mini Dock for it.

It seems that it can't be used without a key because in order to dock I need to "unlock" the dock, and then key can't be removed in unlocked position.

Am I understanding this correctly? It just doesn't make a lot of sense.

It has to be 'unlocked' to dock a Thinkpad. You can remove the key in the 'locked' position after the Thinkpad is docked. If it is locked and you don't have a key you'll have to get one.
