what is the cheapest CDRW to fit my A21p (2629-HXU) that would be available NEW on ebay? - I have seen several on there, but not sure if just any ultrabay IDE model is compatible with the latest BIOS for my machine that is still ancient (1.11 from 2004)

R40 needs "Ultrabay Plus" drives.

In fact that drive will work just fine for the R40.

If you look at the chart on the Wiki link carefully, you'll see that UltraBay 2000 devices work fine in UltraBay Plus slots --> http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Ultrabay
