T410 battery maintenance

#1 Post by outofin » Sat Jun 12, 2010 7:52 am

I just upgraded from T400 to T410. The 6-cell battery no longer sticks out like T400. I think that's a huge aesthetic improvement I really care. (Or they sent me the wrong battery. Let me know if that's the case. :D )

But in T400, I could set when to charge the battery and when to stop. I set it to start charging like 15% and stop at 85%. I heard that's good for battery. I couldn't find this feature in T410. Did they move it to somewhere else, or this kind of setup no longer help new batteries?

Update the power manager software, it'll be there.

How long is the battery lasting you on a 6 cell on the t410? Is it integrated?

Mine has the integrated graphics. I get about 3 hours or less with the 6 cell but I don't use the "maximize battery" settings. I usually have it in "auto" or "high performace" mode and I keep the screen fairly bright. Of course, battery time also depends on what you're doing. If you're doing a virus scan while watching a movie you'll drain it fast. Also, I use the default values for "Battery Lifespan" where it stops charging at 100% and starts it at 95% or thereabouts which ensures that I'll have a decent amount of charge when i need it. I almost always use the computer while plugged into AC. And about once a month I'll drain the battery to 15% or 20% and recharge to 100% which is supposed to be good for it.

Never fully discharge a lithium-ion battery. This advice comes from a battery engineer who says that if you do that repeatedly, crystals will form in the fluid and shorten it's overall lifespan considerably.
