Questions from a T42 newbie

#1 Post by phil917k » Mon Jun 14, 2010 5:51 pm

I bought a T42 off Ebay and already love it to bits. I have a few issues that I hope someone can help with.

1) The Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg wireless card doesn't seem to work when I upgraded to XP Pro SP3. I assume this is some sort of driver incompatibility. Is there an update available?

2) It doesn't have the original recovery partition and I don't have a Windows installation disk. What's the best way to deal with this?

3) It currently has what I assume is the original 40GB HDD. Is there a relatively easy way to upgrade this and transfer my existing Windows XP, given that I don't have an installation disk?

Thanks,

Phil

1.) http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... wc05ww.zip
2.) The best solution is to purchase the recovery CD's unless you can get XP for less ;)
3.) You need to use cloning software of some sort and you'll need an external USB enclosure or an IDE to USB adapter cable

I did the wireless card driver update as suggested and then tried to update to XP SP3. Problem is still the same though - my wireless card fails to see any networks. When I use System Restore to revert to SP2 its fine again. With the end of support for SP2, I'd kind of like to resolve this one so any further suggestions appreciated.

No problems here with the Intel 2200 BG and SP3. If you are using Access Connections, try turning off the Wireless Zero Configuration service in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. If you are not using Access Connections, make sure the wireless zero configuration service is running.

You could also try repairing Winsock2.
