Microsoft Office Medialess License Key

#1 Post by Charles Krug » Wed Jun 16, 2010 11:42 am

Hope this question is appropriate for this section . . .
My vendor is determining the next step, but has anyone else run into a situation like this?
I ordered nine T410 (2518-4HU) ThinkPads a couple weeks ago. The product description showed that preloaded software included a trial version of MSO 2007. So, I also ordered nine Lenovo-branded MLKs for 2007 at the same time.
The systems arrived yesterday (from Hong Kong), and I was surprised to see the preloaded MSO trial version is 2010. I guess it's impressive that the new suite is being introduced so quickly, but it puts a crimp in my plans. :o Hopefully it get resolved today & doesn't turn into some debacle. Anyway, if you're buying a new system this month, watch out for this.

So what's your plan? Unload the 2010 and re-install 2007 trial?

BTW (and it's been mentioned elsewhere), for 2010, there's no upgrade kit (exception: buying 2007 now entitles you to free upgrade to 2010). A cheaper "key"-only option is available but... Beware! It only allows for installation for 1 PC (at least, according to the license). The boxed Home version allows 3 and the Pro/Bus version, if I'm not mistaken, allows 2.

Cheers.

Braddah, I don't see what your problem is. You ordered 2007 trial and got 2010 trial. In the eyes of the vendor, they gave you better than you expected. You had no license for 2007 and you have no license for 2010. You need to obtain licenses for 2007 so you might as well get them for 2010. BTW, 2010 is awesome. Head and shoulders above 2007 once you start using it.

Outcome: My vendor sent 2010 Product Key Cards to replace the Lenovo 2007 MLKs.
It took a while to come to this solution, mainly because Lenovo was so unhelpful. Lenovo put the responsibility on the vendor, even though the MSO 2010 preload was not suppose to ship until something like June 24th.
Maybe I will stick with regular licensing in the future -- more costly, but more versatile.
