I just moved into this "exclusive" apartment complex. By exclusive, I think it just means everything is a pain in the [censored]...

Anyhow, I got here, and hadn't hooked up the internet yet, and I turned on my TP, and BAM! 7-8 connections, 3 of which weren't encrypted, and very strong.

It was fun. I connected to some guys, turned on iTunes, and listened to his music. Then I loaded up myTunes Redux, and ummm... quickly turned it off, because I didn't want to do anything illegal... Seriously. I don't mess with that stuff... Just between me and you...

It sounds to me like most of the 2200BG issues are resolveable?

Must be as I don't have any problems with the one in my T42.

That's good to hear, James.

I am not sure why there has been so much positive talk here about the merits of swapping out the 2200BG for an Antheros a/b/g? I was upset today because the IBM salesguy talked me out of swapping out the 2200BG so that he could get me a T43 immediately, but reading a lot of threads doesn't seem to "condemn" the 2200BG. Some issues with Broadcom based routers, and some driver issues, but looks like most can be worked out.

Have to say that my 2200BG is causing me no end of grief when resuming from standby and hibernation. Once up it's fine. But getting the IBM Sebring driver to take over from Windows and properly turn the radio back and activate the right profile is a real struggle.

I usually have to prompt Windows to manage the wireless connections, which works, then Sebring takes over once the IP address has been acquired. Very annoying...

Anyone got a fix for this?

I'll coin in my opinion that the 2200BG is adequate but not the strongest mini-PCI. It does not get along so well with my WRT54GS when using TKIP WPA, giving me a few connection drops a day. That really isn't such a bad issue, but what bothers me is that the 2200BG is not very good at picking out a signal out of a whole bunch of WAPs; when dealing with unwanted noise of about -40 dBi, its performance is not tolerable to me.

Drivers may do something for some, but the issue has been consistent in my case for every driver I have used. I can't relate this to the IBM a/b/g solution since I have not tested it yet. So for now, I would bet that the 2200BG on the Thinkpad is about on par with other Centrino solutions but certainly not broken.
