questions about t60p

#1 Post by printf » Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:29 am

i recently bought a t60p

currently im in the phase of installing winxp.
my question is that does xp require a sata driver for installation (the f6 prompt at the begining of setup)?
i just started to download all drivers from lenovo`s homepage and i didnt find any floppy driver.

some other questions:
it has a firegl v5250.
under linux how does it perform game-wise? (like quake4/doom3 they have linux ports) with the proprietary fglrx drivers?
or some other games with wine.

anyone tried running bad company 2 on a t60p? from what i've read, the specs meet the minimum requirements, but its a rough edge on the video card part (this time im talking about running it on xp) - as i understood i need special drivers for it.
how about bf2142?
do i need to use omega drivers for gaming under xp or are there good modded drivers out there that are safe and provide good gaming experience and are easily installed on the t60p (i've read here that installing modded drivers was a problem before)?

last question:
does it worth installing windows 7?
from what i`ve read, 64 bit does not worth it since the t60p can only support up to 3 gb of memory by hardware.
does the 32-bit windows 7 worth it?

thanks

Not a gamer, so I'll leave those Q's to someone else, however as far as the SATA goes, yes windows XP requires an SATA driver on install if you have the SATA mode set to AHCI in BIOS. If you set it to compatibility mode no driver is required., You can install the proper driver after installation and switch back to AHCI later on. Windows 7 32bit runs very well on a T60P, so my opinion is that it is worth the upgrade. 64bit W7 won't run at all unless you upgrade to a Core 2 Duo CPU, and even then the general consensus is that it is not worth running 64bit W7 unless you have a large quantity of RAM...e.g. 6 to 8GB.

but is there a floppy image with the sata drivers for the f6 install.
i realy would like to make a custom winxp install cd for my thinkpad and i would like to slipstream the driver in.
i could not find it on the official lenovo site, so should i download it from intel`s page?
btw its core2 duo, but how comes win7 doesnt run only on core 2?

This is the driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 70477.html

I don't understand this question - but how comes win7 doesnt run only on core 2?

If you meant to say, 'Why doesn't Windows 7 64 bit run on a Core Duo CPU? The answer is that it is not a 64 bit CPU. Only the Core 2 Duo supports 64 bit. You can run Windows 7 32 bit on a Core Duo though.

i understand now the win7 stuff.
thanks for the info, i have that driver i just thought that it is the actual matrix storage manager application.

ive read somewhere that i can softmod the firegl so it will be an x1700 so it will perform better with games.
is that possible?
