Intermittent display

I have a T30 with a display that goes away and comes back if you twist the lid. Some times it comes back with a shimmering and other times it is fine for a few seconds. I assume this is something to do with the ribbon cable and the connections to the LCD. I'd appreciate some guidance if others have had this problem - BEFORE I tear into the lid. Can I eliminate checking for anything loose under the keyboard and just deal with the lid.?

My philosophy is to do the easiest stuff first . That means pull the keyboard off and re-seat the LCD ribbon cable at the motherboard. If that solves the problem, then no need to tear into the lid. While you are there, inspect the area of the cable where it exits the base of the laptop and goes into the lid. That portion of the cable is probably what experiences the most wear and tear. Look for any cracks in the cable. If you spot any, then it's time to order another cable and be prepared to tear the panel completely out of the lid.
