Bluetooth and COM Port Issue - T60

#1 Post by dsul413 » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:47 am

Hey all,

Recently I've had issue since I've gone to Windows 7 with my internal bluetooth device and COM Ports disappearing. In the bios the Bluetooth radio is enabled; it has worked since I've had Windows 7 as well. Recently, however, the OS cannot recognize that the radio even exists; using BITPIM, my COM Ports are not recognized as existing at all. Fn-F5 doesn't show my Bluetooth radio and the light is no longer on. Hell, even the device manager doesn't recognize I have one. The Ports tree also does not exist in my device manager.

So, I throw it to you - any ideas?

I also have a screen inverter issue that is bugging the hell out of me, with my screen routinely flickering and dying especially when I plug in - but I'll take care of that soon myself.

Have you tried the latest BIOS? If you decide to update the BIOS use the bootable CD method.

Make sure you initialize the BIOS after loading in the new one...see instructions at the provided link.

I've updated the bios previously from just the download, not a bootable disk. When I tried initializing in that manner I blue screened; my computer doesn't like SATA being in AHCI mode, so I changed that setting back to compatibility mode. That had no effect.

I can give it a shot from a bootable disk, but this seemed to work for the update.

If you've already updated to the latest BIOS, there is no need to do it again ... it was just an idea. How about booting up a Linux Live CD (Like the latest version of Linux Mint) and see if bluetooth works there. The theory being to try to isolate this issue to hardware or software. Pc-Doctor is another alternative to testing COM ports and bluetooth.

I tried running it with PC Doctor and had no failed tests - although I didn't see any bluetooth tests in the lists.

Thanks for the help so far.

I did an upgrade install of Windows 7 and it started working again - after installing lenovo and windows updates, it died again. My guess is a driver problem, so I'm just going to be careful about the upgrades that are installed.
