How to connect W701 to Television via HDMI

I have a feeling this is a newbie question, but I can't figure it out. My W701 doesn't have an HDMI port but does have a DisplayPort. The DisplayPort works just fine, I connected to a Dell monitor with no issues at all. There are DisplayPort to HDMI adapters around, I tried one by Monoprice and one by Monster. With each adapter I tried connecting to two different displays (4 tries altogether). I could never get my W701 to detect another display this way. Am I missing something obvious? Is there someplace I can find detailed instructions on this? Thanks in advance for any help!
