Anyone bought the ultraslim 90w combo adapter@Lenovo outlet?

#1 Post by Procter » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:06 pm

This item: http://outlet.lenovo.com/accessories/po ... y1147.html

This is my first time experience with Lenovo outlet, but for numerous time people were crazy about the cheap laptop sold at the outlet, and generally they claimed that the refurbished or scratch/dent conditions were usually scratch free or just plain new one. Of course, most of those claims came from the laptop sold at the outlet.

I just got the ultraslim 90w AC/DC power adapter (scratch and dent) purchased from Lenovo outlet. The box has a big "USED" sign taped on, and the plugs, inserts actually had scratches from previous usage. So it looks like I did get a scratch and dent item possibly returned by previous owner. It's not that big a deal, but I'm just wondering if this is indeed the case for this power adapter sold at outlet. Has anyone bought this ultraslim or other power adapter marked as refurbished or scratch/dent from Lenovo outlet? Did you receive a used item or it's just my bad luck?

Thanks.

Must be bad luck. I bought one of those and mine looked new to me. My X200 came from the outlet and was refurbished. It seemed new other than the refurbished sticker on the bottom, which was easily peeled off. I've also bought a couple batteries, which looked and performed like new to me. You could always sell the the adapted on ebay as used and try for another.

Yes I did buy a slim adaptor from the outlet and had a bit of an adventure. First one I got didn't have all the tips or the case and as it turned out the power cord had a short in it. A month later, I received all the parts and a new adaptor. I use it everday and am quite happy with it.

@FredGarvin
How did you tell it's new? The adapter's part number on mine is 41R4538, which is actually labeled as "open box" in the database compared to the new item part number 41R4493. And did the box also have a "USED" sign taped?

What's on yours?

@Microspeed

Did you contact their service before getting the extra stuff a month later? I've heard Lenovo outlet's service is not that good. And by "new adapter a month later", were you saying that they did send you a "new" one not "refurbished"?

I did not say it was new, but that it looked new. Mine was refurbished, but I don't recall if there was any sticker on the adapter or box saying so.

Can you check your part number as well? And is there a way to check the warranty for such kind of accessory?

Anyways, it might be me just too paranoid about those urban legend about getting new items marked as "refurbished" etc. Stuff was well packaged, sealed and wrapped, even had that new electronic device smell. Adapter itself looked in pretty good shape despite the "open box" part number, but the scratches on plugs/tips were visible.

Thanks a lot.

There's no part number on mine. It just says Lenovo Combo Adapter. It does say scratch and dent. Perhaps it's just luck of the Irish or unluck in this case.

Hmm, strange. Anyway, it should be on the top part of back plate of that adapter along with the name of manufacturer, power rating etc. Mine says P/N: 41R4538, also the FRU (replacement part number): 41R4510.

First of all I miss-spoke. They sent me a used (as marked on the box) adaptor. I was looking for the part number that was ordered but what is on the unit is as follows. P/N 41R0139 FRU P/N 41R0140. I needed to order a splitter and a generic USB to charge my cell phones. The outlet did not have these additional parts so I had to order them from the regular section of Lenovo. Bottom line the adaptor works well for my purposes. It "looked" new and was at least half the price. It did take a little longer to get than I liked. I did not like the policy of having to have it signed for and the address of the creditcard had to be the same as the billing address. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=86167 This post was about my adventure.
My free time is valuable to me, as I don't get much of it. I think it is important to ask yourself how much time and drama will I have to invest to save X amount of dollars. Sometimes you make it out of the fray with a "Good Deal". Sometimes when you account for you time it costs you more. If you are that concerned about warranty, if it is scratched or whatever. It is probably "cheaper" for you to just order a new one. It could still be bad; but the odds are, it won't be. That said, anytime you buy anything it could still be DOA out of the box. You could get bad customer service and so on. It's just life.
