Hibernate and FN key's

Sorry but I've tried everything. How do I get hibernate and the
FN functions to work? I've downloaded everthing and just can't get anything to work. Any help will be greatly appreciated. When I first got this labtop these features worked but I F11'd it and now I can't seem to get any satisfaction.

I sometimes have problems going into hibernate or standby if certain programs are running (ethereal or netstumbler while active, sometimes if my wireless is even turned on).

Can't speak for the function keys though.
