Bluetooth Profiles

#1 Post by Tokyo » Thu Jun 10, 2004 8:27 pm

I ordered a T42 with Bluetooth support built in (not yet arrived so I can't try it out myself). Does anyone know what software comes with it and what BT profiles it supports? Once newer profiles are available, can I update them? Would the built in Bluetooth module work with any 3rd party software?

Profiles supported by the Thinkpad
Audio Gateway
Headset
PIM Synchronization
File transfer
PIM Item transfer
Dial-up Networking
Network Access
Bluetooth Serial Port
Human Interface Device
Printer
In order to add profiles IBM would need to update the software to add the new profiles.
You can not just add the profiles.

Addendum:
IBM Bluetooth SW does not support CIP (the ISDN Profile)
which is needed to use all features of the AVM BlueFritz! AP-X
ISDN Access Point. Maybe outside EU, you don't care about that.

The naive user I am, reading "Bluetooth" in the specs, I was very
disappointed to find out that I couldn't make use of the AP-X.
In this context the DUN Profile didn't work either on my R50,
even so I heard it worked for others with a Thinkpad an the AP-X.

If it worked for others but didn't work for you, it sounds like you haven't set up the software correctly.

Cynic,
Belive me, I tried very hard, even toghether with IBM SW Support (useless in this matter),
but to no avail.
DUN Error 692 and couldn't get rid of it.
Did OS restore/reinstall, latest BT SW, on Thinkpad and AP-X...
It's something yet unidentified with XP or the IBM Bluetooth SW.
Strangely enough, the PAN profile works with IBM BT SW.
Other devices are able talk to the AP-X via the DUN profile.

In the end I gave up after one night trying and cursing,
plugged in an AVM BlueFritz! USB Tooth and was accessing
the Internet via ISDN Bluetooth within 5 minutes.
