T60s and DDR Ram?

#1 Post by sushiserv » Sun Jul 04, 2010 2:45 pm

Hello, I am newb >:3

Recently I came upon thinkpads after my HP F500 and my Apple MacBook both went kaput due to the nvidia defect and that forced me to sue both companies and take my business elsewhere.

So, I bought myself a Refurbished Thinkpad T60 in April of 2010... Couldn't be happier. Keyboard, fantastic. Battery? Flawless. This laptop? Amazing. My little sister (who is a year younger -_-) spilled some apple juice in my laptop and I didn't even have to freak out.

She was like :o! I was like :).

Now she wants one too...

So........ that brings me to my problem.......

I was looking for a T60 for her as well. Now before you go and say why not getting a newer age Thinkpad hear me out.
We both have self-built quad-core computers for games, Folding@Home for me, and AutoCAD for her. The laptops are just for school work since we will both be in college. The quad-cores cost a lot of money, and I don't need a portable version of that. So the T60 is just fine if not short of incredible.

So I went on Compusa b/c they are having a 10% off sale. And lo and behold... I find some refurbished thinkpads!

Now to my question >
Can Thinkpad T60s have DDR(1) ram???
I have a 2007-GAU model and I use DDR2 PC2-5300 667 Mhz ram in mine. I have some left over ram from my HP, and I want to give it to my sister.. but if the laptop uses DDR Ram, I'm out of luck D:!!!!

The sale ends toooday (or tmr?) and I realllllly want to get her one! I've called CompUSA and they are like... wtfrusaying. and Systemax is closed until tmr D:!

Help D:!!!!!

It won't work. DDR2 has different pin configurations than DDR.

Uh, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I know that... I mean I build computers ^o^

What I meant, was it possible for T60 computers to even entertain the thought of using DDR(1) Ram? and Were the laptops I listed typoed?

DDR(1) RAM won't physically fit in a T60

Ok, so then all T60 will use DDR2 ram. Gotcha. That means this is a typo :<

I'd be very suspicious of their descriptions (if you click on the Info button).
The T2400 is a Core Duo, NOT a Core 2 Duo as they claim! ($359.99)
Their $369.00 and $399.99 machines are both (supposedly) the same.
Their descriptions are quite different.

As per IBM/Lenovo: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo
Product: ThinkPad T60 2007-CL7 [change]
Original description: Based on 2007-G3U: T2400(1.83GHz), 2GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
