rescue and recovery-- do i want this?

#1 Post by ephemeralskin » Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:39 pm

i just did a clean install on my new g40 and am now nearly finished with replacing all the preloaded ibm software. actually the only thing i havent installed is 'rescue and recovery'. should i? i cant seem to find any reviews of this software, and i dont really understand what all it is good for. what does it do that i cant do myself by just using nero or whatever to make a dvd-r backup? why would i want a hidden partition that takes several gigs of my drive? i just cant tell if there is any value in having this (at least for my own needs).
could someone clue me in? thanks. :)

With a preferred alternative for back-ups, I don't have use for it myself.

Hello,

The newer version 2.0 of R & R is fine by me. Sure , one can do this all on his own using Nero or Direct CD, ( Roxio ). If you need the space, 4+ gigs, on the drive then do without. This is meant for the average user who does not know nor care about an image PRG. It can be done with a push of the Access button. maybe not for you but real life saver for the average user if ..... !

From what I understand, the hidden partition can't be installed after the fact. If you use the Recovery Disks that you can creat one time from your new ThinkPad (or you can buy them from Lenovo), you must start off with an unformated, unpartitioned drive, or else with a drive that already has the hidden partition on it.
