Error 2010 on X41T
Hello!
Yesterday I replaced my 60GB origin Hitachi Drive with an Solidata M2 64GB SDD.
So far so good, but now there is the Error 2010 Message on every Bootup.
I searched Google an this Board for an solution of this Issue, because it nerves a lot.
Well I figured out, that the beep is silenced, if you Mute the Sound before Shutdown!
Does anyone knows an solution, maybe modified BIOS or editing some Registry Flags???
BTW: The SSD runs fine, Bootup and System are running more performant like with the Slow 4200 1/min Hitachi Drive.
Contra: It's only an MLC Drive with 60 Read 40 Write, but still OK for the X41T

Re: Error 2010 on X41T
As you probably have read in this forum, there is no final solution. There is no official BIOS and there's no way to get the error away via registry. There are now discussions going around in this threadWigged X41 wrote:Does anyone knows an solution, maybe modified BIOS or editing some Registry Flags???

Re: Error 2010 on X41T
Hello, unfortunately if we don't know how the HDD checking works we can't continue progress with finding solution
There are three possible procedures how an ThinkPad checks for genuine harddrive:
- recognizes HDD model and 'I' character in firmware name -> I think this is less possible because it requires many conditions and lot of code inside BIOS
- HDD with IBM's firmware sending special signal to controller immediately after it spins-up or immediately after HDD is powered-on -> more possible I think
- combination of written above
I'm very preferring second or third recognization process, because BIOS cannot expect new firmware updates and their names! For example, last T43 BIOS (1.29) has been released in 2006. But latest firmware for HDD drives has been released in 2008 (FWHD56) - older BIOS can't expect new units and their names/firmware versions. This is reason why I tend to conclude, that the checking must works on another principle -> special signal from HDD with IBM's firmware. If HDD won't send special signal to ThinkPad, then BIOS triggers 2010 errors. This is only my opinion. When I will have more free personal time, I will try to disassembly and examine HDD firmwares for Hitachi drives which are included in FWHD56 pack and share it with one BIOS hacker. Harry from this forum probably knows some magic details about this but unfortunately he can't share that information here because these information are proprietary and confidential materials of Lenovo
Edit: the 2010 error was so annoying for me a lot, that I decided to downgrade my HDD from Samsung HM160HC to Hitachi 7k100 100GB

2010 error doesn't bother me at all. All of my X41/X41t/T43/R52 are running non-white list drives.

Me neither. Set the speaker to mute and it does not even beep. For me is this infamous "error" highly overrated...

Re: Error 2010 on X41T
I also did not experienced any problem with non-approved harddisks, but Lenovo says there can occur under specific conditions data loss - I don't know if is this statement truth because I don't know details about that 'conditions'. For sure I installed 7k100 drive with approved firmware into my T43p.Tasurinchi wrote:Me neither. Set the speaker to mute and it does not even beep. Re: Error 2010 on X41T
Well, I do not remember anymore how long am I using my T43p with the WD 320GB drive. Never had any loss of data so far... Neither any "strange" behaviour. I think many users here share the same experience with these "non-conformal" drives.lukee wrote:Lenovo says there can occur under specific conditions data loss
If I had another T43 I would never hesitate putting a new PATA drive inside...
