oops...forgot to say:

there are many pix of the machine on the eBay listing page, but I refrained from putting any here at all in order to avoid long page load times for smart phones users, etc.

With all the above descriptions you forgot to mention some prime essentials:
-state of the LCD (how bright, any pressure points, scratches, dead pixels, red/pink at start)
-state of the keyboard (any shine or letters missing)
-state of the palmrest (shine)
-state of the case (cracks, scratches, wear anywhere, parts broken/missing)

i guess there's always more to describe :)

here goes:

-state of the LCD (how bright, any pressure points, scratches, dead pixels, red/pink at start)
*brightness is excellent, i don't have a measure in lumens but it's not dim in any way
*no pressure points
*no scratches
*no dead pixels
*no notorious red/pink at start
-state of the keyboard (any shine or letters missing)
*no shine, no letters missing, there's a decent close-up photo of the keyboard if you click thru
-state of the palmrest (shine)
*again, no shine, see photo in eBay listing
-state of the case (cracks, scratches, wear anywhere, parts broken/missing)
*no cracks, no scratches except for one on the bottom of the case, no wear anywhere, no broken or missing parts

A couple of things here:

a) This machine DOES have a security chip:

Product: ThinkPad A31p 2653-R5U [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: P4-M 2.0GHz(512KB), 256MB RAM, 60.0GB HDD, 15.0 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Wi-Fi wireless/Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), IEEE 1394, IBM Secure Chip(TCPA), Bluetooth(CDC), TV out, Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

b) Being the second-generation (late model) A31p, on these ThinkPads the chip in question is soldered to the board and not removable as it is on some first-generation A31p units.

c) All of this being said, there's nothing remotely controversial about it. It either works or it doesn't.

Good luck with the sale.

YUP I SEE IT ON THE LENOVO SITE. I GUESS I'LL BELIEVE LENOVO AND NOT THINKWIKI.

"There are a lot of drawbacks to this kind of security implementation:
The concept prevents even the device owner from certain operations.
Remote Attestation is a good feature to remotely detect tampering of the computer, as long as this 'somebody' is the owner of the platform. But if this Remote Attestation is used by third parties, serious privacy and market domination issues arise.
There are certainly legitimate reasons for Sealing. But the main use case seems to be consumer-unfriendly new 'business cases' for content dealers which involve locking down content to a single platform, based on connecting content to a specific device without any migration options.

Additionally, the market domination of Microsoft, obscurities regarding the needed trust infrastructure and a heap of patents have lead to critical evaluations from cryptographers, privacy organizations and European institutions."

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TCPA/TCG_ ... mputing.3F

??there's nothing remotely controversial about it??

THERE'S QUITE A BIT OF INK SPILLED ON THIS ONE, AND NOT ONLY ON THINKWIKI.

but thanks + cheers
