Seeking highest-capacity batteries for my R52

#1 Post by hydrostarr » Thu Jul 15, 2010 11:09 am

I'm seeking highest-capacity batteries for my R52; my brief search suggests "6600 mAh, 9-cell" seems to be the stuff I'm looking for, correct? Or is there something "better"?

Assuming 6600mAh/9-cell...
Do these new-battery suppliers/ads appear to be and/or are known to be "legit" for my R52? (And are they the "highest" capacity?)

2) 9 CELL Battery for IBM ThinkPad T40 T41 T42 T43 R50 R52

The original 9-cell batteries for T4x/R5x were 6.6Ah, but near the end of the cycle some 7.2Ah batteries were released to accommodate the newer and more juice consuming chipsets on T43/R52. These are compatible with all T4x/R5x series.

Battery pack, Li-ion (9 cell), 7.2 Ah, FRUs:
Sanyo 92P1077
Sony 92P1073
Panasonic 92P1069
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

How many hours of continuous use are you looking for?

Not the same machines mind you but i have tweaked both my son's and my X31's from a stone stock setting of 2 to 3 hours to more than 8 hours in my sons case. Thats with used, but good batteries.
I used a combination of NHC and windows tweaks to do it, so nothing exotic all.

And, remember that one can always stock up on ultrabay batteries. Not as long lasting as the real thing, but swappable. Don't know about the R52, but earlier Tpads drained the juice on the primary battery first(!), then the ultrabay. Later ones hit the ultrabay first. What I used to do was carry an extra(s) primary, and use the ultrabay to power the laptop while I swapped out primary batteries.

Interesting. Care to share those specific tweaks/settings?

Thanks AMATX for the comments about the ultrabay battery, quite helpful.

Also, fyi: I'm leaning towards getting a T400/R400 in large part for extended battery life (instead of putting more money into my R52...).

OK, Im on the uBuntu so lets do this the hard way.
In Windows, and these are not in any order.

Power settings
dim the display,
shut the display off after 5 mins
Shut the HDD off after 10 mins
Shut off both the Ethernet and modem, as well as other things you are not using like bluetooth
Optimized settings for battery
If you are not using the wireless card shut it off

In NHC
Set it up for battery optimized usage, this will keep the CPU throttled which is a huge savings.

Ill dig the X31 one out later and edit this
