t60 SSD and screen question.
t60 SSD and screen question.
Hi!
I just plan to upgrade my old T60 or buy a new computer.
My t60 is 2007-F2G.
Upgraded to T5600, 4GB ram, 500GB hdd. And a 2nd Sata hard drive instead of the DVD/RW.
Now I plan to buy a new or upgrade this.
I'm satisfied with this notebook, just wants a faster hard drive and higher resolution.
Do you recommend to use SSD in this laptop? I planned a 128 or 256GB Samsung SLC SSD for 220/200MB/s R/W speed. Will it works fine here?
Is it possible to upgrade my screen? Now it is 14.1" 1024x768 with ATI Radeon 1300.
I think the best would be 1440x900, but that is only for a wide notebook - not for this.
1400x1050 LED backlight? Is that possible?
Thanks in advance,

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
You can get 1400x1050, but no LED backlight.

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
I hav a 128GB Samsung SSD in my T60p 2007-FVG. It's working fine but far away from 200MB/s W speed. Intel Postville G2 are known to be much speedier.
Sure it's faster then the former HD but to be honest - most important for me is shock immune.

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
I have no experience with video resolution upgrades. But, I do have Intel 80 gig SSDs on three T60 machines and they work really well. Windows 7 automatically adjusts for a SSD, but XP and Vista do not. They still run with with a SSD, but not as well.pdudas wrote:Hi!

You might consider the "Seagate Momentus XT" hybrid drive, just out. I have tried two of them, and they are amazingly fast and just 1/4 the cost of a solid state drive. The speed is around 90% as fast as a solid state drive. Real bang for the buck! Much greater capacity, too, compared to the mega dollar price of 160 plus SSDs.

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
I have a T60 15 inch with IPS SXGA+. It was fitted with a 64GB Samsung SSD and running Windows7. This is a later model that supports TRIM.

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think T60 it's SATA 1 - so you are limited to <150MB/s.pdudas wrote:[..]

Re: t60 SSD and screen question.
What makes SSDs fast is the random access of small data. Max sequential transfer rates are useless.
A fast SSD on SATA1 will be basically just as fast as on SATA2 in real world use.
Cheers,
Mitch
