LF: T61(p) or T4xx(s)

#1 Post by DeNofa » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:51 am

Hello everyone,

Looking to pick up another T series laptop. My sister wants a laptop, so I'm thinking about upgrading and handing my trusty T60 down to her. Requirements are as follows:

CPU: Not too important, but the higher performance, the better.
Screen: NEEDS to be 14.1", SXGA+ is highly preferred, but I may give in to WXGA+ if the price is right
Graphics: For the T61(p), must be nVidia; T4xx, must be ATI switchable, T4xxs, obviously Intel is fine
Memory: At least 1GB
Hard drive: At least 80GB
Features: Fingerprint reader, webcam, and bluetooth are preferred but not necessary
Price: Cheap is good! Looking to stay below $550 shipped to Upstate NY

If you've got something like this you'd like to part with, let me know!

Email (frank.denofa@gmail.com) is the best way to reach me, but I'll be checking this as well.

Thanks,
Frank

I don't think that there are any T4xxp ThinkPads as all p ThinkPads were rebranded as W5xx. Also there seems to be no T4xx with nVidia cards. Correct me if I am wrong.
May be you should take a look at this offer http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=89042

None of the machines that you are interested in have CPUs swappable with T7200.

And all of these CPUs will be faster than a T7200, with the possible exception of some early ones used on T61/p. Even these will pretty much run neck-to-neck in most applications.

Get a nice T400 with WXGA+ and switchable graphics and call it a day.

The switchable graphics chips on a T400 were not nVidia. They were ATI/Intel - Intel GMA 4500 MHD and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 (M82XT)
Here's a machine in your budget -

Thanks for the replies guys. I changed my OP according. I did see that T400, but the stuck pixel is really unattractive to me...

Just to let you know. I tried the pixel massage trick and the dead pixel isnt there anymore! There are no more imperfections on the screen whatsoever.
