T61 mobo in R61?

#1 Post by radzik » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:18 am

Hi,

I have a problem with my R61 14'1 NVidia 140 (model 7742-CTO), the gfx card is death. So I must replace my mobo. I have FRU 42W7870 and the new mobo is from T61 FRU 44C3933. On picture there are no differences between mobos. Can I use it to my R61? Or can I use any T61 (14'1) mobo in my R61?

R6x models sometimes have Firewire ports, where the T6x models do not.
That might be the only difference.
You can use any 14.1" T61 or R61 mobo if both machines have the same 4:3 LCD or both have the same widescreen size.
You can NOT use a WS model in a 4:3 model or v.v.
Given the many Gfx problems, look for a mobo with Intel graphics.

Yes, I know that. But I have very cheap new mobo with Nvidia gfx. Question is this: with "new mobo" it can happend the same? It is possible to prevent it? Maybe butter cooling or something?

If your (new) mobo with nVidia gfx was produced after July 2008, chances are it will not have the gpu problem.
If not, you run the same risk as before.

Thanks. But how can I get year of production? Searching by FRU is not enough.

Check the mobo for markings like e.g. 0608 or similar, in fairly large letters.
The above would be year 2006 month 08.
These markings should be at the edge of the mobo somewhere.
Don't have a T61 mobo, so can't tell tell you more.
